A trip to Portugal’s incredible casinos

We know that nowadays most of the big casinos are concentrated in Las Vegas and Macau. However, it is worth remembering that the first gaming venues are of European origin. Many of them, true monuments and museums that operate to this day, bring the refinement of other times combined with modern entertainment. And Portugal has some of the best establishments on the continent. Many are quite popular and, therefore, deserve our attention here. With international notoriety, Estoril Casino, located 20 kilometres from Lisbon airport, is considered to be the largest in Europe and offers varied attractions. At the place that served as the setting for the film 007 Casino Royale (2006) with James Bond, it is possible to check out musical performances, art shows and many other entertainment options, such as the traditional casino games. For those not used to it, know that there are several types of games available in environments like this, from classic to modern modalities. Inaugurated in 2006 and located in Parque das Nações, the Casino Lisboa also deserves a mention for being one of the favourites of tourists visiting Portugal. The establishment presents not only a great selection of quality games – there are more than 1,000 slot machines – but also artistic shows, theatre for 600 people, four bars and three restaurants. Alongside this variety of options, Casino Lisboa is also part of a hotel with around 1,000 rooms. With impressive architecture, the place is a great place to visit and one of the greatest gambling experiences in all of Europe.

 

The Figueira da Foz Casino is one of the oldest in Portugal, with a licence in force since 1927. Located in Bairro Novo, the establishment is what moves the city’s night life with tourists coming from various regions. With a very rich history, the space offers a lot of fun, with roulette and slot machines, good Portuguese cuisine and spaces with beautiful architecture. It is worth the visit.

 

Landmark of entertainment in the north of the country, the Espinho Casino is not far behind those mentioned elsewhere. It is situated in the city of Espinho, just 17 kilometres from the city of Porto. It was opened in 1974 and offers a series of events on site, with a stage for shows inside the Salão Atlântico, a charming and sophisticated space that usually hosts gala parties and musical shows. The gaming room has around 800 slot machines. Casino Espinho also has a restaurant, two bars and a bingo room.

Our last suggestion goes to the Póvoa Casino, located in Póvoa de Varzim, near the town hall. In a beautiful building from the 1930s and with neoclassical style, the place opened in 2001 and offers more than 600 slot machines, eight roulettes, plus four bars and a restaurant. An excellent experience for those seeking fun, luxury and fine dining.
